Pheromones: Love is in the Air

With Valentine’s Day coming up you may hear people saying “Love is in the Air” but it may have more to do with pheromones than it does love.

Pheromones can play a huge part in sexual attraction or in sexual repellent. As much as we may or may not notice, or like to admit, smell has a huge impact on who we are or are not attracted to.

I personally feel that pheromones play a huge role in sexual attraction, maybe not so much in compatibility but when it comes to physical attraction, I believe this can have a huge impact. First of all, to anyone who is unfamiliar, pheromones are chemicals that act like hormones outside of the body and this can impact the receiving individual! If you have ever experienced love at first sight, or were instantly attracted to someone you just met, this is more likely to be pheromone attraction.

I was on a date and things seemed to be going okay, we got along, there seemed to be some sort of connection. I decided to ask him if he liked the smell of my cologne. He replied “Ya that’s nice.” Not quite the response I was hoping for. I’m looking for something that WOWS people, not “Ya that’s nice.” He just didn’t seem to be that interested in the scent I was wearing, he then asked me to smell his cologne and asked my opinion. When I went in to smell his neck, I smelled HIM, not the cologne, not him covered up with cologne, I smelled his pheromones and I instantly thought to myself, No, Not again, I am not settling for that again. Based on the smell, I had made up my mind. He wasn’t the one for me. Am I prejudging? Yes, maybe I am, do I suggest people takes chances? Yes, I really do! But I truly think smell is so important and it is not something I can just settle for.

I think we all should be more conscience of this. If you are not attracted to the way your partner smells its quite easy, you are not sexually attracted to their pheromones.

I had another experience recently where I was dating a guy who actually didn’t have a sense of smell! He had expressed having difficulty bonding with women after three months and it dawned on me that this could be one of the reasons! How can we really bond with someone if we can’t smell them? In an article I found on ‘Psychology Today:The Smell of Love.’ it says that smells women preferred reminded them of their current or ex-lovers, suggesting that smell had played a role in past decision about who to date!

So next time you are on a date or with your partner, take a second to notice their pheromones. I believe this has a lot to do with sexual attraction!  After all they say, women can detect genetic compatibility by smell!
